SWAYAM SIDDHA ( Self Empowered )
It is simple to implement a power-loaded concept.
The project is conceived to truly empower women. A 20 day orientation program divided into 4 modules of 5 days each is spread over one year. The course contains:
• formal literacy
• health
• hygiene and family planning
• legal rights awareness
• food & food preservation
• alternative cooking and heating methods
• economic management (micro saving and credit)
A pilot group of 50 women attended this program in 2001 in Kolkata. As a result of the program women felt motivated to form small groups of 10 members each and formed 5 such groups. They have opened their bank accounts and started saving small amounts.
The benefit of this program is that the group attains tremendous self-confidence and learn how to manage the family affairs outside the house.
