A continuing problem is the lack of educational facilities available to the children of poor parents, particularly in rural locations.
Divya Chaya Trust believes that every child should have the chance to become literate, and works to establish nursery schools, day care centres and schools wherever they are needed.
Where real ability exists, the Trust encourages children to continue studying and progress beyond Class X into further education at high schools or colleges.
KUSUM SAROVAR: Divya Chaya Prathamik Vidyalaya
UJJAS in 1989 invited Divya Chaya to provide aid to a non-formal education project running for the community of snake charmers, living near Goverdhan in Uttar Pradesh. The condition of the village was deplorable and needed immediate intervention. Children in the NAGLA were busy playing with snakes and it was one of their main occupations. Divya Chaya initially responded to their needs by giving medical aid but later became more active and focused on upgrading the school. The school was converted from a non-formal centre to a formal government recognised school. Being the only school situated in the remote area it soon became popular. It featured in the BBC news bulletin U.K. and continues to get support from Save - A - Child, London.
The school has been growing over the last decade and now educate 300 children in classes from Nursery to Class VI.
